Kate MccGwire: Lure Exhibition

Kate MccGwire is an English sculptor who specializes in the medium of feathers. Her work experiments with the binary notions of beauty and disgust, malice and tranquillity, and the familiar yet otherworldly.

Lure at The Gallery, Winchester Discovery Centre, reunites many of MccGwire’s favourite pieces from her archive with a host of works from her recent exhibitions. Ranging from 2009 to present day this exhibition provides a retrospective of works, showcasing pieces such as Dwell Nimbus (2011) made from the tail feathers of pigeons and doves – the feathers for this work took MccGwire over three years to collect as the gradation of colour in this type of feather is particularly hard to source.
